OUR STUDIO
A studio built around the work, not around sales.
Mainspring exists because watches deserve careful attention — and their owners deserve a straightforward account of what that attention finds.
Back to HomeOUR STORY
How Mainspring came to Silom Road.
Mainspring opened in Bang Rak after years spent working in workshops where the routine pressure to turn work around quickly made careful watchmaking difficult. The name refers to the coiled spring at the heart of a mechanical movement — the source of stored energy, and the part that keeps everything else in motion. It felt right for a studio that believes in unhurried, considered work.
The studio handles three services: a bench evaluation, a standard mechanical service, and a complication care project for chronographs and calendar watches. Each scope is defined in advance, each step is documented, and no work proceeds without the owner's knowledge and agreement.
Bangkok's watch-owning community is broad and knowledgeable. Many owners bring in pieces with personal significance — a grandfather's dress watch, a first mechanical purchase, a complication acquired after years of saving. We treat each one accordingly.
"We take on work we know we can do well. If a watch falls outside our scope, we say so clearly and suggest where else it might go."

THE PEOPLE
Those behind the bench.
Kriangkrai Phatthanawong
Lead Watchmaker
Trained in Switzerland and working on mechanical watches for over fifteen years. Handles all complication projects and carries out the final regulation and timing assessment on every service.
Natthida Lertsuk
Service Coordinator
Manages owner communications, service documentation, and the process ledger for each piece from drop-off to collection. Makes sure nothing is lost in the handover between stages.
Supakorn Thirawat
Bench Technician
Carries out initial evaluations and case refinement. Has a background in precision instrument maintenance and a close eye for the signs of wear that owners often overlook before they become problems.
HOW WE WORK
Standards kept at every stage.
Pre-work agreement
Every service begins with a written summary of the proposed work and cost. No movement is opened without the owner's confirmation. Scope changes are discussed before any additional steps are taken.
Pressure and timing testing
Water resistance is tested with a calibrated pressure instrument after case reassembly. Timing performance is measured on a six-position timing machine before and after regulation.
Service documentation
A written record of parts used, findings noted, and performance results accompanies every completed service. Owners receive a copy; a second is retained at the studio.
Parts handling policy
Original parts are retained where possible. Replacements are discussed before ordering. Manufacturer-sourced components are used by preference, with alternatives only where appropriate and agreed.
Owner data handling
Contact details and service records are stored securely and used only for communications about the watch in question. Owner information is not shared with third parties outside the service process.
Observation before return
After servicing, pieces run in the studio for a period before collection. For complication projects, this observation window is extended further to confirm that additional modules are performing as they should.
OUR APPROACH
Watch care as a considered practice.
Mechanical watches are among the most precisely engineered objects in everyday use. The tolerances inside a well-made movement are measured in microns; the lubricants that keep it running smoothly degrade over years, not decades. Treating a watch as something to be quickly turned around misses this point entirely.
At Mainspring, the pace of work is set by what the watch needs rather than by a target throughput. A bench evaluation is carried out with the same attention as a full service — because the findings at that stage determine everything that follows. A poorly observed evaluation means poorly directed work.
Bangkok's climate presents specific challenges for mechanical movements. High humidity accelerates the breakdown of lubricants and can introduce moisture to movements that are not perfectly sealed. The water resistance check in the Service Health Review exists precisely because of this — owners benefit from knowing where their watch stands before the rainy season, not after.
For chronograph and calendar owners, Mainspring's Complication Care Project takes a deliberate approach to additional modules. These are inspected separately, with conservative handling throughout. Where a part needs replacement, the options are discussed with the owner before anything is ordered or fitted. The extended observation period before return reflects the complexity of what has been serviced.
The studio is located on Silom Road in Bangkok's Bang Rak district, a short walk from the BTS at Sala Daeng. Visits are by appointment, and postal arrangements are available for those outside the city. Enquiries are handled directly by the studio team — there is no booking system, no automated response, and no queue.
